Passing with emphasis |
Sure he had an incredible year, and brought more fans into the NBA, but realistically speaking, Lin was not our best point guard option available. I favored him as a spark plug off the bench. Similar to the whole Tim Tebow situation in New York, they would have been better off learning from an experienced veteran. Tim Tebow needed a mentor like Peyton Manning, and Jeremy Lin would have better off learning from Kidd and Felton.
Well, he made the decision to leave New York for the Houston Rockets. The Knicks matched his first offer, but he was too greedy.
Rockets have hope on their side |
I know way too many fans wanted him to stay so badly. I felt like they only supported him based on stereotypes and not for the love of the game. You don't hear about any Harvard grads playing the league these days, if it ever happened.
But even though he was the feel good story of last season, he wouldn't have made us feel better this year. He still has a lot of flaws that wouldn't fit well in this Knicks squad. His shot selection is erratic. Lin is extremely inconsistent in finding guys open. He gets down on himself too easily after a few mistakes. The turnover is his best friend. Don't get me wrong, he still needs loads of experience to grab onto.
I couldn't believe how some would take Jeremy Lin instead of Carmelo Anthony. Anthony has proven what he is capable of while Lin is still full of potential. Taking him more seriously would be no different than rebuilding the team over again because every team needs a go to player. Unusually he hadn't made time to fit into a team yet and figured how to be the star within days. That is a great way to start a career, but is a daunting process.
Regardless of it all, Lin is a great role player. Definitely the perfect to come off the bench in a playoff-contending team. Again, he decided to leave New York, the Knicks didn't force him out of town. He wants more in Houston, so be it. I really hope he continues the flame, but I'm so happy that we've got three solid floor generals in return, and all below the cost of Lin.
